Public Waste System — Bin & Icon Redesign

A self-initiated project at A Step Design, Public Waste Bin and Icon Redesign rethinks how we sort and throw away trash in shared public spaces.
We wanted the act of sorting waste to feel simpler and more universal — guided by clean, pared-back icons that anyone can read at a glance, regardless of language. The labeling system spans Chinese, English, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian, so the bins speak to the many people who move through a public space.
Paired with the icon system, the bin itself was designed as a calm, minimal object — its form, material, and finish rendered in 3D to sit quietly within modern public environments rather than clutter them.
